Beanerball Nation: Newsflash. I was the one who said here a year or two ago, that as soon as gas prices start to get wonky, this will be the first sport to get hit. Why? Because of the public's 'perception' that it's a waste of gas, not based on the fact that it's so popular as a live spectator sport that people won't be able to afford weekends at the track.
Promoting women & blacks in the sport, and imposing quotas in the garage, is a direct result of Jesse Jackson catching up with the France family's antics, and their efforts to appease him. Nothing more, nothing less.
Was getting your foot in the door 'simpler' 10 years ago....yes.
Was it 'easier' to compete? No.
Was it 'easier' to be a woman? No. It was probably 'more difficult' then, than now. Nobody 'gave you any breaks', you were there to work, just like I do at auctions now.
Would I trade a second of my life away? Sure. Each one where someone got injured, or died. Same as every other person, on the face of the planet.

All I've been saying all along is quality of life, is actually better than before. YOU watch movies on airplanes. Our lifespan is longer. We talk, and bounce ideas off each other, like never before.
And, the whole damn world can change around you, but as long as YOU don't, you'll be okay.
Everyone has to scale back, and yet, ticket prices for this sport, haven't dropped. But then, neither have my hockey tickets....I still made sure I kept a Montreal vs. Toronto pair for my husband & son, Mr. Blues.
And, as I watch Robby Gordon go through his 3rd manufacturer change in one year, and the suprise of new fans who find this amazing, I am reminded of how 'easy' it is to change decals on 'The Car of Yesterday', and how, in fact, Bobby Allison changed body styles, and motors FOUR times in a single season.
Hey, Andy... did I tell you my son's new girlfriend plays and coaches soccer?
