I have actually had better luck below Barkley but have seen guys catch them off the Piers below Ky when they are out. I always used 1/8 oz jigs with a red head and chartruse body. Most of the time we caught them in the 8" to 12" range. Now I see most of the commercial guys going to a long rod (like a crappie pole) and 2 to 4 really small buck tail jigs (shad darts, I think) and just basically flip them downstream and drag them back up. Usually between 6' to 8' foot off the bank and move them real slow (the current keeps them off the rocks). I think the guys that fish stripes do that as well to catch the smaller ones to use whole. Neat thing about it is you never kwon what you will catch. I've caught tons of whites/hybrids, some cats, and a bunch of spoonbill (your not supposed to keep them below Barkley ). Hope this helps.

Back when I was a kid we used to go there just to keep us busy. Back then we used the jigs with a tail that looked like nylon bristles in either yellow or white. Most all the bait shops still carry them or any other jig you may want.
