Ok, let's say a hand wants to buy a new gun but needs his next paycheck to do so. With direct deposit, he's sitting at the gun shop when they open the doors and walks out with his new gun, shortly thereafter. The old school fossils that feel the need to stand in a line at the bank, have to wait until the bank opens, deposit the paper check that will have a hold put on it for at least one day, probably 3 to 5. He gets to the gun store the next week for his new gun. And as luck would have it, the cold front came through Thursday night and Friday, so he misses the opportunity to whack some new ducks with his new gun.
