I know a construction worker that is laid off, sorta har up, and workin' a few under the table jobs (no big surprise) that has a 36" barrel Marlin goose gun he's thinkin' about selling. Gold-colored trigger and sight bead, guess it 's in OK shape. I need it like yet another hole in the head, but then I wouldn't mind havin' it just fer the helluva it.
I figger it can't handle steel shot, and prolly won't chamber more than a 3" shell, but then when I was a kid I knew of a few fellas that shot (translated = sky-busted) them around FG at the gooseys so it might be fun to have one.
What's dey worth nowadays?

I would have not figured this but here is one offered to the public for $359 with pics
http://www.collectorsfirearms.com/admin/show_inventory.php?catID=1&subcatID=5
And another that has been sold for a similar amount
http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976630460.htm
I would have maybe given $150 for the gun to go with my old Mossy 20 gauge bolt with exterior screw on chokes...

I got one gatherin dust in MoMo.. I busted the trigger dropping it (disassembled) ar Rend Lake a few years back.. got a new trigger and haven't shot it since... come to think of it.. the only thing I ever killed with it was Turkeys...you can almost hide behind the thing standing up!

I traded one to Troy @ MRO for a Drake Wader Jacket.
Offer him $75 for it, it'll be worth 100 trade in at a gun shop.

Actually, funny you asked - ran into a guy at work yesterday and he tells me he has a 10 gauge Marlin 55 goose gun....the construction dude's is a 12 gauge. Not sure I want either of them...and I am damn sure I don't NEED 'em!
I'll wager neither of them were designed to shoot steel loads!

I've got the old marlin 10 guage goose gun with the 36" that I picked up as a kid at a pawn shop. Shot steel with it at geese and duko you're right it makes a good turkey gun. I haven't shot it in several years though because it sure isn't any fun luggin that thing around the woods.

I can testify to the fact that those guns will certainly do a number on a turkey's noggin. However, I wasn't talking about turkey hunting, but rather a turkey shoot, or a competition. Like what they have a Legion Halls and VFW's. I don't recall what the rules are for those shoots. I don't know if there is a limit on the barrel length or not. I know that there is a limit on the restriction though.

duko, funny you should mention that. The guy I know with the 12 gauge Marlin 55 indeed did take it to the local sports club turkey shoot. Between he had his buddies who he let borrow it they kicked everyone's arse....the next weekend, they implemented a 30" max. length limit in addition to the full choke maximum.
So halfie, what's dat ole' smokepole worth to ya? Did tear up the barrel using steel shot??

Mac, it's collected considerable dust in its status as deep backup... I cant recall that it has had any steel shot through it.. I only remember flinging high brass 4s at turkeys with it....
Prolly had some BBS or #2 lead through it before I got it from brother ...(the skinny one).

Model 55 Goose Gun This is the Model 55 with a 3' chambered, 36' Full choke barrel and a recoil pad and sling. It was introduced in 1962 and is still manufactured.

So I am wondering how a value is established for a gun that really doesn't have a purpose any more? Other than it goes "bang." Too long/awkward to use for turkey, not designed for steel shot, banned at Turkey Shoots...seriously, I am sorta curious.

The numbers I posted are based on MSRP and monitoring of market places like Shotgun News, Gun List Magazine and the auction sites. The value is ultimately established by the desires and needs of the buyer and seller. Halfy feels he needs $125 for the gun, Skunk desires to give him $50. My guess is these two settle for something like $90 and a blow job.....who gives the blow job and who receives it cycles back to that whole needs and desires thing
