I've owned a bunch of gas trucks in my life, and bought my first diesel, a 99 Dodge, 3 years ago. I won't buy another gasser.

I double tow with my 28' 5th wheel with the 18' jetboat on the back of it and still do about 14 mpg. Try that with a gas truck and see what your mileage does.

Besides, I love the smell of diesel in the morning...

Duckbit....I drive a dodge. It will be my last one. Dodge has put 3 injection pumps, a lift pump, fuel rail, and 6 new injectors in the truck in the past 5 months. All under warranty and don't get me started on the current "issue" they got it in the shop for now. I put 110,000 miles on my truck in under 2 1/2 yrs and its hooked to a trailer for 100,000 of those miles. I would figure the fuel to gas saving on the truck, but my calculator doesn't have that many zero's.

Next rig will be a Ford. They did have some problems with the 6 liter powerstroke....head gasket, injectors, but they have em fixed.

Unless ya got a 6 cylinder gutless engine in a 1/2 ton truck, you won't get better gas milage out of a big V8 over a diesel. I get atleast 5mpg better than most gas trucks. That's an extra 180 miles a week I get out of a tank. Thats 10,000 more a year or roughly 830 gallons of gas......of course there is no savings in owning a diesel, just ask the coon ass in LA.

STTH...you gotta find a better place to buy diesel. 40-50 cent a gallon difference.....I ain't seen that. You need to stop buying fuel in a one stoplight town.

Hell, they charge an admission price to walk on the Chevy parking lot. One problem ya got with a Chevy is the price. You might have to sell the trailer ya live in Krazy to buy a Chevy. Your truck payment would be more than your trailer payment.....plus when we went to Canada last year, Dabs chevy looked like it was driving uphill the whole way pullin my boat.

H2Odog i don't buy locally unless absolutely have to but because I refuse to pay the thiefs here in town Once a week or whenever It needs fuel the redhead takes it instead of the car to work to fill up. What gripes me aboout the lack of competition in this town and their ability to stick it to ya. A couple weeks ago when I went to the state fair fuel was 3.06 in Marshall and it was 3.19 everywhere else and 3.28 here at home it is 3.11 (gas 2.65)now and when we came back from the lake I saw 2.99 in Sedalia

Dos-
Did you just say a gas motor is cheaper to operate per hour? Set down that crack pipe and crunch some numbers.
Diesel=better fuel economy by far, longer engine life, Less maintenance.
Gas=shitty efficiency, short engine life, more maintenance.

oh yea and Real Trucks Dont Have Spark Plugs.

GM pricing lets you buy affordably, if you can get it....15 to 18% off the price after incentives usually brings things down quite a bit.

The reason my truck was squattin was you had that heavy assed 4 stroker hangin off that aluminum pile I was pullin

Its a damn good thing it wasn't cold up there or we wouldn't have gotten any fishing in too.

15-18% off the sticker price gets the bastage down to a sticker price of Ford or Dodge. They is always proud of them bowties and EXTREMELY proud of them Good Made Chevy's.

For a new vehicle, I wouldnt have a clue. If you are interested in a diesel now is the time to buy, the new emmision stardards are raising costs and decreasing power outputs big time. Turbo Diesels are getting far to advanced for the do it yourselfer. I like something I can work on. 12 valve cummins is probably all I will ever have.

I aint owned a gas pickup since '93. All have been Dodge so I cant really speak from first hand experience too much on other brands. IMO Dodge went to chit in 98.5 w/ the 24 valve, as far as maintenance-free running. I've had two diesels in the driveway the last three or four years, one being a 96 4x4 that I drive. We bought an 06 dually a couple of weeks ago. Sweeeet ride, six speed, and a trailer draggin sob. I only drove it home, so I couldnt say what it's getting right now, but I'm gonna guess about fourteen w/ a 28 ft. horse trailer that's tall and eight wide. Like pulling a wind sock. If you even think you want a Dodge you need to buy one right forkin NOW. I mean get your azz down there tomorrow. Unless you'll qualify for 0%, then you got time. But if not, try to get in on the employee discount+rebates. You should be able to take them down to 78% of list or so. I'm talking a little over 30 for a Dodge dually four door w/ High Output Cummins-six speed.

Krazy, I got mine about a month ago, i went from 11 mpg about everywhere, to 19 in the city and 22-23 on the highway. Im gonna get the chip that is supposed to give 4-5 more mpg. I got a Dodge simply because of the Cummins engine. Hell, ford is supposed to be switching engines soon to International or Cummins. Appearantly there have been a lot of problems with the powerstroke?? Give me a call and Ill let you take it out for a spin....

Duckswit.....WTF you talking about with maintenance??? A
gasser you change the oil every 5K and forget about it for
200K. Hell, listen to waterpup and his problems at 100K with
the Dodge. I haven't had any issues with my 6.0 powerstroke
yet, but it's no daily driver either.
You talk about crunching numbers, but your calculator dont
work or you like to stretch the truth.

I ran all the numbers before I bought mine a couple years
ago, and the diesel is inefficent to run UNLESS
there is somthing strapped to the back.

I guess my 3/4 ton is getting crappy mileage at 16 to 17. I
mean thats a hell of alot better than my 96 Chevy's 16 mpg.
And since everyone on here pulls a boat with them to work,
we should all buy diesels to save money, right?

I drive my trucks for around 4 to 5 years apiece, so I don't
give a ratts ass about long life. Like I said, I can't make
the numbers work for the diesels. But what do I know....I do
know that the diesels I operate cost about $9,027 per
operating hour per year, not including the $125,000 overhaul
every 3.52 years.

BTW.....take your oil analysis and shove it up your arse..
you'll already KNOW you have problems before they
get back to ya.

OH, and did you figure in the add on exhaust, chips, and air
induction stuff in on your "number crunching"????

OOOPPPs....I was doing some waterpup math. That $9,027 is
divided by 24hrs, leaving $376.12 per hour.

Don't tell my boss I'm a dumbass. I guess sooner or later he's gonna figure it out like everybody on here already knows.

DoucheGrits....lets see if I got this right.

Ya crunched the numbers with your abicus and found it not effient to have unless ya pull something. You leave your truck parked in the driveway since it doesn't get driven everyday........yet you went out and bought a diesel truck knowing ya was gonna be gettin the shaft. Makes perfect sense to me.

While your busy trying to convince everyone hear that you don't know $hit about nothin, please explain to all the people on here that own 4 strokes how we gotta warm em up in the winter and how the fuel savings over a 2 banger don't add up to the extra cost of buying it......especially right now with premium gas at a price hoverin $3.00 a gallon.

I guess i did not specify owning the vehicle for a reasonalb amount of time. I was maily talking about used, as new diesels are having far to many problems to pay 40K to be a guinea pig.

I knew you would show back up....I drive one because I can,
plain and simple. I don't like taking a 1/2 mile to pass a
damn FEMA hauler draggin a bowed axle piece of crap BIG TEX
trailer down the road. My gas pickups wouldn't tow up to my
expectations, so I wouldn't aggrivate myself any longer.
However, my every day driver is a gas pickup (company) and
so is the wifes. The less I drive the 3/4 ton, the less it
cost me. At this point with 30K miles on my wifes Envoy and
the same on the diesel, The gas maintenance is roughly $300
and my truck is $600. Where are the savings? Hey, I
own both so show it to me dude.

As far as you four banger debate goes, I believe that the
difference in purchase price figured out to running 380 hrs
or so to break even buying a four stroke. So about 4-5 years
of operation, more than that for most people.

So now we gotta compare and SUV to a truck....yep same category. Where do ya hook up the gooseneck and 5th wheel on that Envoy? Try staying on topic......Gas TRUCKS vs. Diesel trucks Comparing truck vs. truck the savings is in the fuel milage. Obviously you have a hard time figuring fuel consuption and savings. Lets just agree that your an idiot and call it good. I don't have the time to teach you Economics 101.

Atleast we agree on one thing. BIG TEX trailers. I guess that's why my 4 dump trailers ain't Big Tex. And who works for FEMA.....I ain't got one check from them yet.

Dude.....another flock just flew over. I'm not talking about
towing. 17 MPG and 16 MPG, there almost the same. I believe
thats what the original topic was. I may not
know Krazy, but he never talks about jerkin a trailer all
over creations.

I don't need you to try to teach me your version of
economics.....they don't add up. When fuel is your biggest
expense you watch it closely. One of our larger boats will burn 14,000 gal of fuel North bound in a day, don't talk to me about fuel or diesels.
You might want to stay with your buddies and talk about
your disposable engines.
