Only 16 kids get to go to state in each event out of thousands. I guess when you strip it all away it doesn't matter one way or another, but the kids work so hard you can't help but want it for them because you know how much they want it. It's not like a team sport, those kids are out there on their own, and when they fail, it's just them....no pats on the back, no "good game"....just them left to deal with the fact that they didn't get it done. Same kid tripped him twice, my son had to be restrained at the finish line...work so hard and have it play out like that, well....it took awhile, but he learned a few lessons from that. 9:44 for the 2 miles is awesome, would probably get you 1st in state 1a, 2a...fastest my son ran it was 9:42 at State his senior year...Congrarts to Griff. if you get a chance, go watch as much of the State meet that you can....you have to sit in the bleachers, and it gets crowded, sun block is a must, they used t let you bring in coolers....it is a pretty cool day to spend watching some outstanding athelets! -------------------- somewhere between "Hi, how can we help you?" and "Get off my lawn!" I would call it a train wreck, but that would actually be a disservice to train wrecks. A really good Sophomore season for him.....left with a bitter taste in his mouth. Down the road it will be a good thing, but it sure was hard for him to swallow now. On a side note, former student from my school took first at State on the "HomeofToto" side last year in the 400....transferred to the Missouri side and took first in 3a in the 400... -------------------- somewhere between "Hi, how can we help you?" and "Get off my lawn!"
