Gentlemen,
I know there are many many varied methods for getting rid of moles. Foot's rodenator may be called for. I have read a lot of it on here, but didn't pay attention in the past, and don't feel like searchin now.
History: I bought a foreclosed property in the country. 1.7 acres of mole heaven. No one lived here for over a year, so the moles have had free reign. Praire dog colonies would be jealous of what the moles have done here on my place....
I have had a lot to do, but the moles are now getting my attentions.
I can't afford the vodka when foots comes over.
Are they active in the winter? Seems the last week or so, I have new/taller tunnels than before. I have lived here 3 months or so now, and have enough in order to start my mole war.
So what is your best recommendation to getting rid of these bastages? I don't have enough time to sit there with a cooler and a hoe, so what else works?

I used a multi-pronged approach. I bought the poisons and put lots of it in the runs. That slowed them down. Then I used the scissor traps (google it) and they got some. Finally, I used the garden hose and shovel method, when I had an evening to spare, here and there. I got 90% of them, between the three-pronged approach and the lawn is now recovering. I had them pretty bad.
Here's a tip for the hose and shovel method. Before sunset, tamp down some relatively fresh looking runs. For whatever reason, they seem to be more active in the evening. Give them 15 minutes to an hour and you'll see them active in one or more of the runs you tamped flat. That's a good place to start with the hose. Flush 'em out and cut 'em in half, with the shovel.
I think they just go deeper when the weather turns too cold. Not sure if they hibernate or not...

The best and quickest way is to get some of those poison worms that you put into their runs. Only propblem is that the Motomco worms are not cheap! Something like $18 for six of them in a box/pkg. I use two worms per run, spaced about 1-12 ft. apart.
In past years moles have run rough-shod over my yard, but this year I kept them pretty much at bay...

This is the best I have found. Poison is not worth the $$$ IMHO to kill them all. tramping down runs and finding active runs is important and then set your traps. They work very well I killed all in my yard in less than 2 weeks.

I know the active runs, cause I ran em all flat with my lawn tractor, and they are all up again. The most fun would be to get some vodka and have Foots over, but with him bein fired and all....
Let me put it this way, I got 1.7 acres of moles. Litterally!
Will they go away for the winter/hibernate, or still gonna be around?

I think the propane in the tunnel is the best approach. Just blow up the entire yard and presto, no more moles.

I have a black headed worm grinder finder for $2.00 a mole for him and all the beer I can drink while hes hunting. He will get every mole in your yard.
I can not guarantee what your yard will look like when hes done, but it will be mole free.

I've tried the standard mole trap before but have now ordered the scissor type traps. In hope of slowing down the HORDE that seems to think its their yard and not mine.

I've used Castor Beans before with good luck . Plant them about a foot apart 4" below surface all over your yard . Not good for larger areas , but not too expensive for average yard .

I would have to agree with you Deadeye.
Between moles and ground squirrels my place is a hazard just walking the grounds.

Deadeye be carefull about your dog grabbing shrews . Shorttail shrews saliva is poisonus . My former Lab got bitten inside its lip when grabbing one and caused it to have convulsion .

Once I 1st dug up his tunnel I saw parts of earthworms so I knew it was a fresh run. Now just need to keep at, hells bells might as well thru some pellets down there too for a double whammy!

I toke to my lawn the other day thinking how I can replicate the Rodent Blaster. Spraying the grass for weeds during this drought and used up my container of killer fluid. Opened it up and poured gasoline in there and pressured the container. Toke my BBQ ligher and garden hose and went to work.
Sprayed gas into each hole I saw that ran into a big run. Carefully lit the hole and watched the results. No animal was harmed during this excerise. Continue this as far as my garden hose would allow. Would have been nice to see one of them moles come out of there on fire!!
