If you’re driving east on 94 from Jeff city you’ll come to the town of Portland. There’s a little country bar and grill down by the Katy trail and river that is worth a stop. Good burgers and pork fritter. If you call about 40 minutes ahead you can order the half fried chicken and a side for 12 bucks. Definitely good eats and cold beer.

Gal,that lives across the street, also gives that place good marks. Last time we went thru Portland is was before they opened. Used to be a pretty good place in Rhineland but I am not sure they are still in business.
In the event you make Hermann and have a craving for really good pizza--- 4th street pizza-- great pizza

The place in Rhineland had a fire a few years ago and has not reopened. Our bar and grill in Treloar has been closed for a couple months due to a flash flood that damaged the building.

Had drinks with a Holzhauser today. She told me all of the history of the place. Started by her deceased husband's grandfather. It was a grocery store/ bar in the 20's.

It’s a good place and we usually stop when in the area. They have good eats at pretty good prices. At one time Portland was quite a town.
