I'm taking a yute this year but couldn't go last weekend, due to a scheduling conflict. So, he's taking a day/morning off school on Opening Day (17th) and I'm taking him then.
I would imagine it was fairly miserable for a Youth Hunt, with the wind and chilly temps Saturday morning. The afternoon and Sunday should have been pretty good though. The birds around the house have been gobbling for weeks now. I would imagine a few got popped last weekend...

took my son out saturday, but couldn't hear anything due to the wind.
heard one gobbler on someone else's property but couldn't hear it when we moved places to get closer.
he camped out saturday night, so he slept in sunday morning. He said he got cold overnight, so he spent time outside the tent overnight getting his campfire cranked up to warm up, haha, so he was pretty tuckered out sunday morning.

I'm giving it a whirl later in the week.
I'm on a great piece of land selectively logged out 2 years ago so......hoping this 3rd year they are back thick.
No time to scout or know much about where the birds are but hoping it's better than the past few years.
Good luck to all.

Monday was a bust. Cold was annoying but rarely a deal breaker. The wind is what sucked on Monday. Had 4-5 gobbling on a Saturday morning scouting mission. Not a peep on Monday. I didn't hear a shot either. Gonna be tough getting out any more this week. My son gets married on Saturday and my list of honey-do's is not small... I'll hit it a little harder next week.

Killed a bird that I plan to register with NWTF. Never done that before. Shot it with a crossbow. 3 beards. 11" 10.5" and a 5.25" Beard 27.1 pounds and 1 1/4" spurs on both legs. Bird scores over 105 points, and makes it the #4 All time Crossbow Eastern turkey. Biggest Bird I can remember killing.
Completed another World Slam in Campeche Mexico earlier in the month. Was able to finally get the old man down there for his final bird as well. He was pretty damn pumped to get it done.
