I received a report from a friend about 5 miles away that they had seen their first bird at the feeder on Friday. I don't even put feeders out until the first week in April.

Finally put the feeders out yesterday. We'll see what happens. Spring is usually pretty slow at the feeders around here. Plenty of natural nectar and other food sources.

That is pretty cool Haus!!
I don't get that until at least mid-June. I have a few at the feeders now but never more than 2 or 3. I assume they just have too many other options in the Spring.

i've got (3) feeders, two have 10+ holes on them and the other one has four.
they're going thru half a gallon in 24 hrs now on the two quart sized feeders..
like sptsman said, come june/july, they'll be killing half a gallon in 8-10 hrs.
there's only 5-6 houses within a mile radius down here. i guess i'm the only bar open these days. apparently they haven't read the physical distancing bulletins..

We're getting up to speed now. Once they get word out to their kin, it will be game on. We have a dozen or more using the three feeders I have up. Filling every 2-3 days. In a few weeks they'll be emptying them every day or day and a half.

We're well over 20 but almost impossible to get an accurate count when they're all buzzing around as the sun is setting. We have three feeders out and they are 10 yards or so from a big crab apple tree. At any given time, there are 6-12 at the feeders and at least another dozen in the tree and buzzing around, in the open. I'd guesstimate we have 25-30 regulars.
I sit on the porch swing within a few feet of the feeders. As long as I am still, they buzz around my head as they constantly battle for position. Between the chrping and buzz of their wings, it is pretty chaotic. Sort of the bird version of George Floyd protests...

They're throttling back a bit. I was going through a gallon a day for the last month or more. By far the most hummingbirds I've had, ever. Still hitting the feeders pretty good at dusk and dawn but they must be transitioning to the bugs for protein. I suspect they'll start leaving in a week or two. By the end of Sept. I rarely have more than a few, if any.
They've been a great source of therapy through COVID times. Lots of nights on the front porch with a glass of ________ (fill in the blank with bourbon, scotch, beer, wine, Irish whisky, etc.) and my Bose speaker with the playlist playing. Up until dark, these little buzzers were swarming the feeders and porch area. Pretty fascinating to watch!
