bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa..........Wow yeah you really got me there. Ice time.
Hey, have you seen his ice time lately? PK time?
Good god man give it up. He's playing well right now, better than well. And he has played great hockey in the past whether he meets your or my style of play or not.

3 in a row. The last against the leagues best.
Berube has his best lines in place now. ES goals are back by all the lines. A well balanced team that is fore checking to win.
And hate to say it for fear of jinx but the Blues have a goalie and home ice means something again.
Vegas on Monday. Oh baby.

LS is still in - how bout you other puckers? Have they turned the corner? Will they be hosting a playoff series, or hoisting their golf bags....bubba needs to know these things!

Well, that's the problem with this version of the Blues. They certainly have enough talent to make a deep run with the goalie situation stabilized (at least for now). BUT.....they've never shown enough character to get there. Tarasenko, Petreangelo, Bouwmeester, Steen, Parayko, Perron, Schwartz, etc. all basically disappear when the play gets rough in the playofs. It's been a common theme for the last playoff appearances.
A tiger doesn't change it's stripes. I hope they make me eat my words, but I believe they will be golfing by the end of April.

It would take a monumental meltdown to miss the playoffs. So, I think we're pretty safe there. As far as how far they can go, it is anyone's guess. It really comes down to three simple things. 1. Avoid major injuries to key players. 2. Get solid goaltending. 3. Play with some grit and toughness. As Scott said, they have the skill to go deep. They just need a gut check and have everyone step up.
Tonight's game is going to be pretty big. It will put them in a tie with Scott's favorite team, Nashville. And give them a great opportunity to take over that spot down the stretch. Anyone that would have predicted that in December would have been smokin' crack.
Oh, what I wouldn't give to see a certain, conflicted cafe poster watching the game tonight in his Preds sweater, whilst slamming his IPA's...

Listen, you boneheads, I am not a predators fan.....I am a NASHVILLE fan. I would drive the 5 hours to party down there before I would drive 20 minutes to our downtown area. We live in a chithole of a metro area......and soon to be expanded.
As I said.....I hope the Blues make me eat my words. But I have no faith they can, and past performance bears that out.

Well there is something we agree on. STL is a chithole. I travel 30-40 weeks of the year and spend a good deal of time in other mid-size and large cities. Just spent 2 days in Boston last week (about to spend a bunch of time there between now and August). I have to say, it is really hard to F-up a downtown any more than STL has managed. It is especially disheartening when you see what so many of the other metro areas have done. But I can't say I care much for Nashville. Yes, it is 1,000X better than STL but that is a pretty low bar... Nashville has become an overcrowded, expensive place for bachelor and bachelorette parties with a lot of bro-country.
I was at a hockey game in their inaugural season and them was some clueless rubes... But Nashville hadn't gotten out of control by then. You could still get into most of the bars without an outrageous cover charge and downtown hotels weren't $250-$500 a night and up. Now the Preds are good, some of the fans actually understand hockey but the nightlife will almost bankrupt you...
Too bad the Blues can't play in West County...

Set goal tending aside.
The issue is not grit and toughness. This team is plenty tough enough. They are 16-8-2 against top ten teams. The issue is if they can score in the play offs......and not just the top line. See last 3 games for reference.
As for past years, pretty sure Binner, Sunny, Schenn, Thomas, Bozak, Dunn, O'Reilly and Barbs were not a part of that, nor was Steen playing 4th line, where he belongs.
Now bring goal tending back in and if Binner really is what he has been you can really throw out "what they have done in the past".
Since Jan 1, these are the NHL's top 5 in points.
League
56 Tampa Bay
55 Boston
54 St. Louis
52 Carolina
49 Calgary
Conference top 5:
54 St. Louis
49 Calgary
46 San Jose
43 Arizona
42 Winnipeg
They may not have the names to win a Cup, they don't have the skill set to win a Cup but this is a good team by any standard. It isn't even about this year, it's about a team that can truly build into a Cup winner in the next year or two off the pieces in place.
Play offs across the whole league will be a crap shoot for all the teams. Blues will draw Preds and might be golfing by mid April. But I don't expect to see any lay down. And if they should get by the Preds.....dear Katy bar that door.

I don't think they have the horses. Yes, I think this is the beginning of what can be a cup contender, maybe even next season if they drop a few of the names I mentioned.
Still, no way I'm giving that group a pass this year until they prove they WILL play in playoff mode. Perron never has, Steen never has, Tarasenko never has, Schwartz never has, Bouwmeester never has, and Petro never has......so let's see what they bring this year.
They may not even have Nashville in the first round.....they have a tougher schedule than the Note does....and I wouldn't count out the Blues to catch Winnepeg at this point. But yeah, likely Nashville.
Yeah, they have beaten Tampa this season.....but the 2nd and 3rdd period Saturday night was not pretty. I don't think they can win 2 games against that team in a series.....but I'll go out on a limb and say Binnington...if he can handle the pressure as a rookie.... could make a difference there.
Lots of question marks for a "good team".....we'l see.

I'm gonna agree with most all of that, in the past, even though you forgot Allen.
But too much has changed.
Here's to you eating your words dude.
I've never seen that before.
On edit:
Hottest team in the league tonight. As was Tampa before Saturday. Gonna be a tough one.

That was probably the best 4 game home stand the Blues have had in many years. I don't imagine any team in the league is looking forward to that bunch down the stretch.
On another note.....what the hell was up with the ice in the 3rd period tonight? Puck bouncing all over the place and players off their feet the whole period. Nobody looked comfortable skating.

You want to ask big bad tough Bruins how their third period looked last night against Tampa?
Blues are rolling. 6 goals from the 4th line on that home stand. Steen is finally placed where he belongs and he's good at it. O'Reilly broke his slump last night. Binner with another great game. And credit goes to the entire D core.
It's eary. It's almost too perfect.

I don't care how the Bruins do against Tampa.....the game, at this time of the season, is about match-ups.
At this point, when it counts in April-June.....I don't think the Note can beat either of those teams.
They can't skate with Tampa and Boston will pummel them.

Boston has plenty of its own problems. They are far from a lock to win anything. And Tampa is a very good regular season team. We'll see how it translates in the playoffs. I would not bet against them but all it takes is one good team on a roll to bounce them.
ls, I agree it is about the scoring in the playoffs but a good deal of the scoring in the playoffs is about toughness and grit. If you have noticed, many of the games where the Blues could not score, they had tons of SOG's with little or no net-front presence. When Maroon and others started getting dirty and mucking it up in front of the net, scoring came. Even in the games where they scored from the slot or D-men from the point, the physical presence had opened up shooting lanes. In the playoffs you have to play hard and be willing to hit and get hit. The game changes and unless you have Gretzky, Messier, Kurri and the rest of that Oilers dynasty-type players, you had better be ready for the battles.
I am not laying down any cash in Vegas but this could be one of those years like the 2012 Kings. Lots of similarities with the rough start, coaching change and peaking at the right time...
Rangers and Devils next. Both already eliminated from the playoffs. They really need to get 3 or 4 of the 4 available points...
Go Blues
