Yeah, I guess it's time to put out the feeders. I was in the garden this evening and had one eyeballing my can of Budweiser. Consumption of my beer by any bird is unacceptable
Awesome pic, Bill !

Welp. My photography skills are not as refined as Master Wu's in taking Hummingbird pics. This is my best pic to date.
I titled this one "Hummingbird Meets Kat" (feel free to share with fellow birders)

I put the feeders out last week and sat on the porch swing last light with 5 or 6 buzzing around my head. They arrived at my feeders early to mid week, last week.
Always interesting to watch one or two of the dominant males try to keep other birds away from the feeders. Of course when you put up 3 or 4, he can't keep them all clear. And just like with humans, there are always a few females that aren't impressed or intimidated by some aggressive male.
And so the season begins...

Too much natural stuff in my neck of the woods for them to hit the feeders that hard. Once the spring bloom is mostly over, I'll have more than I can count and will start burning through the sugar. But I don't look for that until early to mid June...

Right on cue, they are sucking down a little less than a gallon a day. I have a few dozen or more buzzing around like swarming bees.
This is the first year I don't have a garden in the last several years. I mentioned to the neighbor that I saw some nice looking 'maters in his compost pile, whilst I was mowing. He told me the damn himmingbirds were poking holes in several of his tomatoes. I think some of his frustration was directed at me for drawing so many himmingbirds around. But he didn't go so far as to blame me. I may just go buy him some fine netting to put over his 'maters to keep the little fellers off his plants. Then again, I'm not 100% convinced hummingbirds are doing the damage. I have had tomatoes and lots of hummingbirds for the past several years and never had an issue.

All gone for the year. Need to take the feeders down and put them away until next year. Hopefully, I can get to that before duck season...
