but I spent the last 4 days of the Final Four matchup in Vegas, with a dear old friend and her husband. They live about 6 hours from me up here, and we rarely get together, so we spent some time catching up, as well as doing the Vegas thing, while her husband bet on basketball.
She's a school teacher, and about 2 years from retirement. Another friend of hers went on vacation to The Galapagos Islands, and when she was on one of the islands noticed that there were no schools - lots of kids, but no schools. She came back home, fundraised until she had enough to start her own school, and my friend is going to go there to volunteer at this school, once she retires. I said, I'd go too.
It's still a few years away, but I'd really like to do this. Now that she's got grade schoolers enrolled full-time, the older kids are seeing what they missed, and she's trying to make room for them too.
It's an opportunity, I never thought would present itself to me.

For you, yeah. There are probably no micro-breweries there.
For her and I. Well, our Moms traveled together for years, all over the world, because our Dads didn't want to travel either.
Besides, that Darwin guy, what the heck did he know, eh?
Spend a few days in Vegas, and there's no way anyone could believe in the theory of evolution. What a card!

I am sure they have schools, dabs.
This, however is an opportunity to introduce youngsters who WANT to learn to a school curriculum.
DjF, it might take 6 years and 22 days before you decide you want more to do than sitting in a rocking chair, or not. I like working at Habitat for Humanity, because I believe that the cause benefits children, immediately, in their education and futures, so I'll continue that work when I am home. I can't sit still, for too long.
However, the population on The Galapagos is a fusion of both biosphere and social considerations. Education in political ecology, ecological anthropology and environmental ethics, is important to the future of population to understand how they can continue to live with their surroundings.
Yes, tourism is huge, but if you wanted to go visit anyway, well, I'd like to stay a little longer, and try to help. I think living a minimalist lifestyle on a volcanic island in the Pacific, might be a good thing. I've got nothing against snorkeling and diving.
No iphones, probably.
