I hear ya Paul. I don't know how they're going to replace Bradford on the mound. I saw a few shots on the tv of Fisher visibly upset in the dugout just prior to his mound visit to remove Bradford and go to the bullpen...

I'm gonna go ahead and blame this error of posting on the wrong thread on the heat, the civil unrest, and uh, maybe a few too many Zeke's Pale Ales.
Speaking of beer and as long as we got this thread properly D-railed, Haus, I got a brewing question or 2 for ye.
1) My homegrown hops (Cascade) looked liked they had finished growing, so yesterday I got out the extension ladder and lowered the vines and harvested. Got them drying on a screen out on the screen porch right now. You ever do a wet-hop brew? If I were to do this, what flavor difference could I expect vs. doing a regular dry-hop?
2) Thinking of brewing a batch in the next few days, but unaccustomed as I am to brewing in the summer, my immersion chiller attached to the garden hose will likely not work quite as good as it would in the winter months as the water coming out of the tap is quite warm. However, I'm thinking what if I took the kids old wading pool, filled it up with water, and dropped about 6 or 10 bags of ice in it, then take my boiling hot wort, still in its stainless steel pot, and set it right in this ice water bath. Is this ill advised? Wouldn't it chill the brew down pretty quick?
Thanks, Paul Dallas

I've not ever brewed with wet hops. Might sound gross, but throw one in your mouth and chew on it. That would be the best way to see. I think it would be a bit more subtle than dried, but I don't know for sure.
As for chilling, I boil in a half bbl keg. (Not knowing how big your kettle is, take this with a grain of salt) When finished, I put in the immersion chiller, and then put the keg in an old wash tub I have. I then let the "waste" water fill the tub and run out. I'm on a well and it will chill boiling wort down to 68-70° in about an hour in the hot assed summer. I don't use any ice.
I'd find something smaller in diameter than the kiddie pool unless you're on a well too. that's a chit load of aqua wasted.
Back when I was doing partial batches on the stove, I'd set my 5 gal pot in the sink w/immersion chiller and an ice bath. How big is your boil kettle?
As for the last question, getting it chilled as fast as possible is the goal. I've got a plate heat exchanger due to arrive from British Columbia any day now. It will chill 10bbl of boiling wort down to 68° in 30 mins using my well water. That will cut down on some time, but it comes with a cost.. All for the low price of $3k..

it will likely taste like cider vinegar run thru some chit stained panty hose
PS, take this chit to the brew forum

Cards seem to like the Jekyl and Hyde shake and bake.
Gotta say, the rest of the league seems to like it too.
The only recent good news to come out of this season long trend is come from behind wins are way up and two out hits we lead the league.
The rest of it basically sucks.

1 Game lead in the Central. I'll take getting hot in September an riding it into the playoffs..........instead of getting hot in May and falling flat in September like Bubba's Braves
In other good news.........about 10 more games before the Cubs are eliminated from the playoffs once again.

Well we were hot....before we ran into that baseball buzz saw known as the Cincinnati Reds.
Good grief.
Matheney with the Ellis for Adams pinch hit move as our last batter today with the tying runner on? In a big game. Ellis?? Really?
The guys batting a buck eighty.
I dunno. Lefty/righty, BA historical matchup.....not sure of the logic but that move seemed odd to say the least.

yeah.......it is hard to believe that move
but ya gotta admit 3.5 game lead in September in spite of all the strange moves -- even after dropping 3 of 4 to the Reds
and somewhere in Chicago there is a Cub's fan crying in his beer and saying
"maybe the Cardinals really do have magic pixie dust"

How Ellis is still on the roster is the question I ponder. I don't care what he's owed. He needs to be gone!!
I was listening to that move on the radio and it was told that Ellis was 3 for 4 against Chapman. The one out was the strikeout the night before. Was Matheny trying to show the world how smart he is? Every fan with even half of a brain knows Ellis would eventually be at .200 or less against Chapman, if he batted off him more than a dozen times. So, you take a skewed stat and use it as justification to take out one of your best hitters, with some pop, and replace him with the worst hitter on the bench. I would rather they put Miller in...
The Cards control their own destiny at this point. We'll see what this bunch is made of in the next few weeks....

"HomeofToto" City fans will gladly trade you Ned Yost for Matheny. In last nights game the Royals started Liam Hendricks because Danny Duffy (who has been a stud) had to miss a start. I don't think anyone but Ned would have figured that Liam (an Aussie who was a throw-in in a late year trade) would probably throw a shut out. But Ned had our #2 hitter sacrifice bunt after the lead off hitter had doubled! WTF is up with that?? I can match any stoopid move that Matheny makes and raise you with a Yost move. Bet on it.. BTW I figured I could talk about this shat if others can hijack this thread with home brew talk..

For a guy lucky enough to get one of baseballs most sought after jobs without any prior coaching or managing experience he's done pretty well for himself. And I think he's improving each year.
He's had good rosters to work with and he basically hasn't screwed up but most importantly his teams have been ready for post season.
Not perfect, a real bore but yeah, the Cards could have done much worse.

1.5 Game lead. 4 games to play. Pirates are red hot. Oh the drama...
Last night's loss was brutal. Could have put themselves in a great position to begin thinking about setting up pitching for the playoffs. Now they have to play like every game is the WS. Maybe we get lucky and Atlanta finds some heart and tries to win a game or two. On paper, you like the final series match-ups with Cards playing Arizona and Pirates at Reds. But "on paper" isn't worth much when you get to this point in the season. You got one team swinging free and easy, getting ready for golf. And the other team is squeezing the bat handles...
Go Cards!!

Well Bubba, it looks like they found a little sumptin' in themselves. I guess asking for two in a row would be crazy talk, eh?

So who's Matheney gonna put on the playoff roster?
Preizinski over Cruz?? It's a tough call. If Cruz is not on the roster then really, Matheney can't use the lefty Priezinsky as a pinch hitter anyway.
Or both get on and a guy like Gonzales has to sit? THAT will bum me out. Marco is showing some really good stuff I don't care if he is still in diapers.
Kozma over Descalso? Yes, MM will have to bench one of his favs. Right?
Is Grichuk REALLY going to get a START for game 1? I hope so. This kids a keeper.
