Perron shipped out to Edmonton for a 22 year old LW and a second round draft pick next year.
Magnus Paajarvi, another Sweede, is our new winger. They say bigger, faster, tougher and more of a go to the net guy. He was drafted 10th in 09. Much of his attraction is in POTENTIAL, a familiar phrase indeed down on Clark Street.
I wish Perron well but I am not surprised he was traded. Blues really had to do something with the current lineup and Roy/Paajarvi, while not super stars, just may be what this team needs to get the hell deep in the playoffs.
As always, for 45 years now, GO BLUE.

Good move, to be sure. Pre-concussion, Perron would have fetched more in return but this was a pretty good deal nonetheless. Aside from the salary cap benefits, I wouldn't be surprised if this deal had a little of Hitchcock's fingerprints on it. The Blues needed to get a litle bigger and a little tougher, in the corners and in front of the net.
Perron needs a new environment. By all accounts he seems like a good dude that wants to succeed. Hopefully, the Oilers will be the right fit for him.
I'm not sure about a Cup but they damn sure need to go further than the first round in 2014...
Go Blue!!

Reading the boards in Edmonton it seems a good 60-40 they like trade. Quite a few like the trade BUT they recognize Paajrvi had a much better second half than first and they are wondering if the Oilers are giving up on him too soon.
Blues had to move salary. Teams were not lined up to give us super stars anyway. This is probably the best DA could do and we get the 2nd round pick and the POTENTIAL for a steal with MP.
One thing, contrary to the first things I read......the fans up there are saying he is not super physical and he does not clog in the net.
Gonna be a different look next year. I think it's all for the better. Thing is, are we really staying pat with Halak and Elliott??

I think they are legitimately hoping the copetition between them and Allen will bring forth a legtimate goalie for the season. I also think they might have trouble moving one of them. Other GM's are fully aware of what we know...
In a perfect world, Elliott plays like we saw he is capable of, Allen backs him up and Halak gets traded.

We open camp without Petro??
Both groups are working on it. The Blues are right to be careful but it is most likely in their interest to get something done long term.
Will be interesting to see where DA ends up on this.

They had to lower their offer to pay Hull. That won't end well...
Fortunately, Petro can't really go anywhere and a prolonged holdout isn't in his best interest. I suspect he will be in the fold in the next week or two.
The bigger concern that we'll never really know is if DA is being hamstrung due to limited finances with this ownership group. We keep being told that is not the case but I'm not convinced. Only time will tell...

Not a fan of hiring Hull. At all. I sure hope they aren't paying him for 40 hours cuzz he won't be there to do it.
And what am I missing about new owners not bucking up??
They had to move Perron for CAP SPACE knowing Petro had to be signed.
We haven't had a cap move in some time.

Good start, to be sure. The intensity was there and overall the team looked good. The "D" looked a little disjointed at times but that is to be expected early in the year.
So far, so good...

Oh yeah, I was very disappointed to see Backes wearing the "C". He's not Captain material....

7-0??? 7 DIFFERENT goal scorers??? WTF? Are they that good.. is Florida that bad.. or was it just one of those nights?

I think it is a combination of both. Florida was not at their best and isn't going to be a great defensive team, even when they are. They have some firepower up front but they really aren't a great team.
The Blues are really deep. They may have the best #3 and #4 lines in the league but they have been lacking a premier goal scorer or two for the last few years. If one or two of the goal scorers on this team can take it to the next level, this team could compete for the Cup ... Schwartz? Tarasenko? Backes or Berglund finally?
Go Blue!!

uhhhhhhh......yes, he is.
As for the Panther whoopin it was fun to see but time will tell on just how good this team and Jaro Halak really are.
And there is plenty of time left to do it.

Hated arch rivals in town tonight. They drop the puck about 5 minutes after the first pitch on 4th street.
Keeping up is gonna be pure hell I tell ya.

I was flipping back and forth between the Note game and the Cards. Fun night to be a fan of sports in the Lou! Flipped back just in time to see the game winner by Steen. How do you allow a 3 on 1 with 25 seconds left in the game? Sounds like something the Blues used to do! LOL Go Blues!

Man the Hawks are good. We played with them for about 40 minutes but good thing it was the last 40 minutes.
Great win by the good guys. It's a long season but they all count.

From the little I saw of it last night, that game looked like fido's butt.
And is Lapierre the right guy for us? We need to be a little meaner, and he is that, but is he the right guy or is he just a run of the mill dirty player?

Apparently, for the 4 guys that watched and the Post guy who recorded it... the blue notes got their arse handed to them.

Well we had the stinker on Sunday and the magic came back Tuesday night.
The Blues are really rolling........it's hard to complain about the front 6 on any of the lines.
I still am not sold on Halak. I hope he's the guy good enough to not cost us.....to play solid.....for the year. He's done well so far on the win column but man he still loses his focus too often for me to buy in. And it's early yet.
And Backes, our CAPTAIN, with 20 points. And still the hits and energy. Not too shabby, eh sportsmn?

They are hitting on most cylinders on most nights. I think it is the most talented team they have had that I remember. Seem to have grit as well. Some depth too. Can they make it to the finals? I still have my doubts but they are fun to watch.

I never said he wasn't a very good player. For his talent and size, he should be a great player. In the past he has been inconsistent and has been a playoff disaster with dumb penalties and poor leadership, as a Captain.
I contend that Backes would be best suited with no "C" on his sweater. Maybe an "A" but preferably not. Like it or not he is just not a leader. He's the typical "dumb jock". Tons of talent and should be scoring 30+ goals a year on a top line. Put the "C" on him and he has too much to worry about. Not to mention that he doesn't know how to be a an effective leader. Watch the last two years of playoffs. Those Blues teams were steamrolled and they looked lost after the first period of the first game against the Kings (both years). The guy just isn't "C" material, he just isn't.
If they want to win the cup, they'll just have to overcome having a "C" that isn't a very good "C".
