Well, they were as of this fall up to last week over at my hunting club. I'd say less than half the birds that we normally have. A Buddy went up to Clarksville last week and saw TWO. bwaaaaaaaa
No I'm not alarmed, no global warming warning bells going off, just think it's a little odd since their numbers are down this way this time of year after they've been swelling in recent years.
Thought I'd check in with all the experts around here. You can post up now sportsmn. bwaaaaaaaaa

Last couple of years there have not been a lot of eagles in the places I photograph but we have several that stay around all year now.
From what I've been hearing the hotspots in Iowa and further north have seen little drop in number of eagles.
I've stayed away from the touron (tourist + moron) areas since Christmas but a couple of people that specialize in photographing them have told me the eagle photographing has 'been slow' up until last week.
I have a spot where I've seen eagles pretty consistently that most of the tourons will never think to go and since it requires actually getting out of a vehicle--most would not go anyway.
Until the big rivers freeze, they are going to spreadout or stay up north in my humble and oft disputed opinion.

i live on a lil skinny crick down south here. work from home these days and i'll see 5-6 daily, sometimes more.
until you boys up north get you a passel of chicken/turkey houses up there, we're gonna have all your eagles down here. they love the easy feast of compost birds scattered on the pastures down this way..

In a good freeze up year, I can pull into the Riverlands touron area and see 30+ in the trees,5-10 on the ice, another 15-20 fishing below the lock&dam and 3 or 4 at the boat put in -- add the 2 or 3 per mile or so going up and past Grafton and you could not be blamed thinking that every eagle in North America was there
Reality is Clarkesville will have as many or more and Lock & Dam 14 (Iowa) will have more than Clarkesville and Lock & Dam 13 will have as many as all the others
5 or 6 a day down where you are is a lot but there are a lot of eagles below Bull Shoals on the White thanks to the weekly stocking of trout by Arkansas Fish & Game

They are on the upper Meremac too. There's nothing like seeing them in that kind of setting.
Hey Wu where have the pics been? Gotta go up to DECOY CARVING to see anything these days? Throw us a bone down this way from time to time, this place has been dead as a door nail.
Haus have you had any Wing Nut beer? I had a few drafts at two different places and it was dyn-o-mite and I was told it was made in the Lou on Washington but when I googled it showed only a brewery called that in Chicago? Know anything about it?

We have seen more than usual, at our blind this year. In fact, pulling out decoys last Friday, we saw three fly over very low. Two mature and one had a white head but not a white tail and the underside of the wings were blotchy. I have never seen that before. I suspect that is the human equivilent of a teenage boy getting his wiskers or a girl sprouting her boobs...
We have a nest within 250 yards of the blind and watch them every time we hunt. I have no idea what the overall numbers are like for the species but there is no shortage between Winfield and Clarksville.
Since winter has passed us by this year and last, I suspect they just don't make it down this far. No need...

I was 90% joking & 10% serious in my post.
I do see that many a day, but realize that's peanuts compared to up north. I didn't see my first eagle in person down here until about 7 yrs ago. The numbers here have grown steadily since then.
I can drive east 20 mins and see 50-70 in one spot where a farmer throws his dead chickens in the field. (I might have posted a pic in here somewhere) They're neat to see, but can screw up the huntin down here..
Dad, I haven't heard of Wing Nut. If it tastes good, then drink a bunch of it. Glad you found some good brew. Every man should have the opportunity to drink good beer daily, in my opinion. "Support your local brewery."

Wu, is it anything I can help you out with? bwaaaaaaaaa
Haus I remember that pic....still can't believe it!
Last year during a freeze up we shot a crip that landed about 200 yards away. In no time an eagle was on it and started ripping the bird up on the ground. Within 15 minutes there was 12 Eagles hovering over the one on the ground who then took his meal into a nearby tree.
These birds just came out of nowhere from miles around. It was like they had radar. They say their sight is amazing and I can atest to that.

Three or four days ago, there were three fully plumed bald eagles and two either golden or juvenile balds at Watkins Mill State Park. There about two thousand Canada sitting around on the ice. Very pretty birds. We generally have a few eagles passing through the area each year.
