Proposal would expand Missouri Conservation Commission THE ASSOCIATED PRESS | Posted: Tuesday, January 17, 2012 7:59 am
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. • Missouri senators are proposing a state constitutional amendment that would double the size of the Conservation Commission and make it geographically diverse.
The commission oversees the Department of Conservation. It's currently made up of four members, with no more than two from the same political party. Members are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the state Senate.
The proposed change in the state Constitution would expand the commission to eight members and require that they be from different areas of Missouri.
Supporters say there seems to be little geographic or occupational diversity on the commission. Opponents contend the proposed change could pit regional interests against one another over funding and other resources.
Approval by the Legislature would put the amendment on a future statewide ballot.

Typical big Govt. WE have plenty of money, so lets spend it all. Add more high salary employees. The 4 commissioners just rubber stamp the stuff that is recommended to them. Hell.......one person could do what they do.
While the Senators are at it, why don't they send 4 rivers some money for a PERMANENT check out box that can't be run over with a truck. That way they can save on paper and postage to mail out letters to folks for failing to check out.....even though there is no check out box. Folks would have used the Check-IN but it was for CHECK-IN ONLY
just a thought.

They get reimbursed for their travel and expenses. I wonder how many high end dinners, overpriced plane tickets, and fancy ass hotels we pay for. Any time anyone gets a job dealing with politics they aren't doing the job out of the goodness of their heart

Dawg/Wu,
my guess is that this is attempt to let some of the "Urban Areas" have more of a say...and siphon off some Dollars for inner city parks...plant some flowers and bushes for the gangbangers to hide in at the corner of crack and shoot up..
Gawd knows that North St Louis is full o nature luvvers.

Chances are it isn't so much the 'nature luvvers of Gangland" that this is aimed at but more like the wine and brie crowd that want bike trails, parking lots and interpetive tours that can be be seen from the Beemer........ something akin to the Audubon 'birding' clusterforks where they drive 400 miles in a day-- jump out and all look through 20x-60x spotting scopes to look at some black crowned night heron that is 1/2 mile away or a common ground dove that got lost in migration from 200 yards. Then they pile into a Honda SUV and drive to the next "observation point" and do it all over again and again and again while talking about the virtues of getting back to nature.
(trust me-- I've had them screw up a photography dealio where I was there before sunrise and just about to take the picture and they come bobbing down a trail like crazed butterflies--scaring off the bird I wanted to photograph and then ask me if "I have seen anything of interest"
letting the social elites of St Louis, Columbia and KC dominate the Commission will lead to things like ....Disneyland traveloges for those too lazy to actually work to enjoy the outdoors comes to mind
Look for more Quick Draw type venues to encompass everything from trout fishing to mushroom hunting-- all in the name of "quality experience" or "protecting the habitat/resource"
hard to beat the instant documentation for the bureaucrats which allow them "to show what they did with the taxpayer's dime"... because it is all online or on the server
forget that it is all hat................ no cattle.
Only thing that would be even worse than the pap they spew presently is if they said "its for the kids"

kind of reminds of the old Jethro Tull song Thick as Brick

I see you got a letter too. This is what I wrote on the letter and returned it to them.
I deposited my card on the ground where the return box was supposed to be. It is not my responsibility to provide said box, it is yours. The box was missing on both Sunday 1-1 and Monday 1-2. I suspect it was not replaced on 1-3 either.
I killed no ducks. Hopefully this information will allow you to update your the harvest report on the MDC website. You folks are all over it. very much.

Bailey and I had a conference call with them this morning. If we fail to check out again we could get a ticket. I guess I'll fail to check in everytime down there to solve that problem
What I find amazing is them bastards still feel the need to control an area and need to know all they can. Bayouetro has 40x the hunters daily......yet don't give 2 shits how many people hunt or how many ducks get wacked.........but somehow they manage to survive amd people continue to show up for hunts. Buncha micro management control freaks

I guess if they mail ya a ticket for littering, you could drop the payment in the check-out box??

There are actually three bills of interest in the house right now.
The first bill is the one Wu mentioned that would increase the number of Commissioners from the current 4 to 8 with the Commissioners being appointed by the State Legislators' instead of the Governor.
The second bill is to have the 1/8th of 1% brought to a public vote every 10 years.
The third bill would require the State Auditor audit MDC yearly.
I actually learned about these yesterday after a State Representative (who is married to one of my cousins ironically) paid a visit to one of the westside MWA members and told him he had co-sponsored the 1/8th of 1% bill. He also said alot of the elected officials have been hearing alot of things from the people they represent about MDC. The 2 other bills were sponsored by other elected officials, he just signed on to support them. He also said that MDC has a lobbyist who walks the halls in the Capital always patting people on the back and shaking their hands. Since he has co-sponsored that bill, and signed on the other two, the guy has given him a cold shoulder.

Let me just say, at this particular juncture, that I think the MDC does an outstanding job of trying to control every duck that flies over the state, and counting each and every duck that is killed by man is a most important endeavor.
In that light, I think that it is up to each and every one of us, as stewards of this great flight of Missouri captured waterfowl, to also record any ducks and/or geese that we see dead in the field, no matter how they have been killed.
Therefore, I would like to declare, in the interest of keeping tabs on each and every duck (God knows the importance of this task), that I, again, killed no ducks.
HOWEVER.....I did see 9 carcasses that I assume were ducks. I will report 1 killed by skunk, 2 by hawk, 4 by Eagle, 1 by racoon, and 1 by turkey.... (OH HELL YES THEY DO!!!!)
Next year is my year.....I can feel it!!!

He,he, this season I can finally use Griffin's favorite line with complete honesty....."I hunted zero days and killed zero ducks" To hell with MDC, to hell with some quick draw and to hell with some ducks. I'm taking up crocheting and fly tying.

I have a friend who is a representative who is attempting something along these same lines. The commission is represented by people from KC, St. Louis, and 1 from the bootheel. How in the heck can those people even make a wise decision concerning us down here in sw Missouri is beyond my ability to comprehend. While at it, he has had some meetings with the commissioner concerning the new permit fiasco. I know you all are concerned with mainly feathers, but with the new printer paper licensing, how do they expect the thing to stand up to weather and moisture. I deer hunted with him this past year and I keep bending his ear about what a stupid idea this is.
