I got a 6 of Leinenkugel's Berry Weiss and a 6 of Leinenkugel's Fireside Nut Brown. Both are excellent. I've had 3 varieties of Leinie's and all have been great.

Surely you remember that Fezziwig was Ebenezer Scrooge's first boss in "A Christmas Carol"? He was a jolly old boy that Scrooge got to see again when he was with the Ghost of Christmas Past.

This here's an intellectual, high-class place - all of us talking about these fancy beers. Try to keep up.

Bell's Double Cream Stout: What I'd call a good clean stout. The label says 5 different malts, and it darn near tastes like a "malt" with a creamy smoothness and just a hint of dark chocolate bitterness. Not alot of licorice notes, which is a nice change of pace from the other stouts & porters I've been drinking lately. Finishes extremely well for a 6+ % abv.
If you can stand paying 10 or 11 bucks a sixer (ouch), this is a really really good beer.

The hop bombs have not been agreeing with me lately, so I've been wandering aimlessly. I've tried 3 new ones in the last week or two:

Kalamazoo stout - Good (dry, more licorice than choc)
Sam Adams Noble Pils - A good American take on the Czech style... more "crisp" than the SA lager IMO.
New Belgian Sunshine Wheat - A solid session beer.

Picked up a sixer of Breckenridge Oatmeal stout the other day, haven't tried it yet... what can I expect?

Drunkeness and a general lack of enthusiasm............you may also become slightly depressed at the thought of never pursuing your dreams of being a stand up comic, at which your wife will certainly find to be quite funny. Ironic, no?

Had 3 really good ones last night:

Laguanitas Maximus IPA - loved this one the best, big big hops but not overpowering, smooth malt to balance it, 7.5%

Ellies Brown - Avery Brewing Co. - a good brown ale with a little dark chocolaty grit to it.

O'dell's Levity Amber Ale - nice smooth red beer.

Lagunitas? I'm gonna have to double my daily dose of Prilosec so that I can get back on the hop bus... I miss my bitter buddies.

Breckenridge stout? <shrug> It's okay, but not one of the better stouts I've had lately. I'd like to take Haus' World Wide Stout out for a spin.

Ozark- I gave a bottle of Copper Run vodka to a friend for Christmas, and it was a big hit. Meanwhile, I'm inching my way through a bottle of his moonshine... good stuff!

My fridge has been filled with Bud these days....can't say why....just got a bit fried on the hops. I'm about ready to get back in the game....I'm starting to miss some flavor. Still......with all the college bowls, NFL playoffs, college basketball starting up.....it's been fun to sit and drink all night watching sports after the kids are asleep....and hunting season has me drinking what the rest of the fellas want as well. I guess the 7-9% beers built up my tolerance....I swear I can drink 100 Buds.

I agree. Nothing wrong with an occasional reset and reprime with yellow beer. Gives the intestinal tract and esophagal lining a much needed break.

Forsythian shared with me some of that Ozark moonshine on a recent outing down to the Current river. I thought it was several peat bogs better tasting than that oversmoked single malt I brought, but I digress. Sure was fun to poach the park anyhow, wasn't it, Ken?

This place does miss some Griffin pot-stirring, don't it?

hey griffin,

think of the bud phase as "rehydration" cause basically it is...

i'm in the same boat. been limping along on maybe a beer a night. pulled some bud out of the keg freezer that had a born on date of Jul 02 09. Those 4 lasted about an hour and that was all of them. Bought a 18pk Saturday and it didn't make it to monday. Don't know what else to make of it, but i do know my piss is more clear and a little less yellow now...

Welp......I made a New Years resolution...ain't gonna say what it was, just that I'm still doing good with it. In order to celebrate and pat myself on the back a bit, I stopped by the local Beer Disneyland tonight. Left with:

1 sixer of Lagunitas IPA Maximas
1 sixer of Rocky Mountain IPA
1 sixer of Mad Hatter IPA
1 sixer of Odell's IPA
1 sixer of Two Hearted Ale
1 case of Budweiser

Then I stopped at the grocery store and bought:

2 lbs. of skrimp
2 10 oz. lobster tails
3 16 oz. strip steaks
2 bags of ceasar salad
10 lbs. of taters
1 lb. of cole slaw

and............

1 bottle of Citrus vodka
2 bottles of Bloody Mary mix

Now.....leave me alone for the rest of the weekend with my football games.....I ain't taking calls.

griffin

P.S. - Haus.....you ain't kidding on the rehydration....my skin was peeling.

I get that craving for "American Lager", too, and I drink some of it every week. It seems like the system wants a break from the heavy beers and stouts sometimes.

Michelob Original Lager works for that. They claim they're brewing their original 1890 all-malt recipe to make it, and I think it's good. Then there's Sam Adams Boston Lager of course, and Boulevard Pilsner - also good ones.

Even with American Lagers, a fella's gotta have SOME standards. C'mon.

Buuuud.

But I'll drink a free one.

Ozark.....no chit here.....you and me have got to spend a weekend on a boat drinking beer and talking about the differences in our jobs "then and now" sometime this summer......my head is starting to spin off.

got another bomber of Great Divide's Hercules (double IPA). That has got to be the best double IPA in my book. They do an awesome job of flavoring out the high alcohol content (10%). Sweet upfront with big hops on the end.

Great Divide makes some interesting beers. I've liked most of them..Sam Adam's Noble Pils arrived at the store today...should be cracking a few of them in about a half hour.

Gavin, how'd you like the Noble Pils?

PD, you out there? Couldn't remember if you had the Albright boots... if so, I was wondering about their sizing.

I went to Crane Creek today, and decided I've had had it with the low crotch in my Prolines. Makes it too hard getting up and down the bank. Looking at a size 11 stocking foot and a size 12 Albright boot. thanks

Still here.

Forsythian - I picked up the Albright boots for my boy. Got them a size bigger than his normal shoe size and that worked out well. Now we just need to find a time to go get 'em wet before he outgrows them. They look like they're pretty well made. Mine are some old Orvis boots that I picked up for a song when they went out of business here a few years ago.

Tried a couple new brews this weekend at the local Deweys pizza parlor:

Charleville Tornado Alley Amber (St. Genevieve, MO): good roasted malt flavor, very drinkable and tasty, long on the roasted flavor which I liked, but the head disappeared pretty quick.

Magic Hat 9 (Burlington, VT): advertised as a Pale Ale by the waitress, but was a little on the light side for that, and not much hops going on, and had an interesting apricot finish. Good chick beer.

Thanks a bunch...

Last night I had a pint of Young's Double Chocolate Stout, and man was it good! I could think of no better way to pack on another 20 lbs than to make this beer a bed time ritual.

Went and got another 6 of Torpedo today. They started carrying it at the local Schnucks so I don't have to worry bout Bubba buying it all up at the secret liquor store now.

Fork you Bubba !!!
