I had never fished Taneycomo and went this past weekend and Monday. Was going to fish Tuesday morning before heading home but the rain was relentless and a tad too heavy at times. It was a great trip with the people and the food and drink. Unfortunately, the fishing wasn't so hot. Even the seasoned veterans to Taneycomo weren't lighting it up. We caught some, but nothing to write home about. I had a pretty good one on and got it about 10' from the boat before it spit it out. My partner had the net ready and the line just went slack. Since I'm not a trout expert, I have to make and uneducated guess on the weight. I'm guessing 5-6 lbs. After a few drinks that night, it got up to 10
I'll certainly go back, but I'll take a buddy that has been fishing it 4-5 times a for 30+ years. He gave me some great advice and intel, but being in a boat with someone like that is way better.

Taneycomo can be a challenge even for experienced anglers. Wind, water conditions, cloud cover and time of day can all come into play for how you fish it. Line size is also important. Bait wise night crawlers are almost always a go to bait. But if you had a good time that all that counts.

Went to Taneycomo last week. Hotter than hell on the lake. Fishing was ok but not great. We mostly fished jigs, power baits and night crawlers when the water kicked on. I kept 8 for grease release but we had a good time with good friends as always.

Like Taneycomo---I try and avoid the rest of the chaos around there
I can recommend Gaston's with no hesitation. I guess for nearly 20 years, that is where Molly and I used to go for our anniversary. If you want a quick recon of the river....hire a guide from them or one of the other resorts. Good accomodations, great people to deal with. I used to photograph with Jim Gaston on occassion-- they have a visitor's center there just as you cross the dam--nice place. Fishing up river at the state park is always pretty good-- it is one of the release sites on the White. When they aren't running a lot of water---wade the area up near the dam--flies only...not sure if that is still the case--was a 'trophy area' Always run over to Flippin for some fly fishing on Wildcat Shoals and use the river taxi service. Never went to it, but you can schedule a factory tour of Ranger Boats if you are so inclined (ie if the fishing sucks)
