Heading South - need advice

OK fells, for the first time in 25+ years the stars have aligned and may have the time to follow the ducks south. I have spent the last several years raising kids working and generally up to my arse in one thing or another. After the busiest work year in a long time, I am caught up and don't really have to be anywhere for family, work or otherwise, after Christmas day. In short, I can take a week or two and chase ducks...

Here's the problem, I am not even a little familiar with hunting in the Southern states. Looking for some do's and don'ts as I drive south and look for ducks that slipped by me here and need killing. Arkansas? Louisiana? Mississippi? Texas? I have no aversion to the trial-and-error method, just looking to avoid some of the errors, if I can.

I have never paid a guide and don't really want to go that route. But if push comes to shove, I guess I would for a day or two. My preference is to find public spots or get permission on private ground (assuming this is nearly impossible) and do the work myself. I'll be traveling with one other guy, maybe a third.

Any advice or smartarse comments are welcome. In the meantime, I'm going to get on the phone today and start making calls. I'm hoping this internet thingy can save me a little time with my research as well. Looking to go the day after Christmas. I'll probably be gone a week, maybe more, maybe less.
