Yeah, I run two tractors, a riding mower, and a 50 hp motor on my fishing boat. I don't use a whole lot of gas and diesel off the road, but enough to keep up a 6 acre place and go fishing maybe 30 times a year.

Twice, over the years, I've picked up that form at the gas station - then I get home and realize what a huge pain it would be to apply for and get my refunds.

The state could provide gas stations with the forms to be signed by customers, then the station could deduct the state tax from your gas purchase right then. There wouldn't be a need for refunds. But instead they've got it set up so they collect the tax, then you've got to jump through hoops to get back. The result is just what the state wants - like me, most people don't file for refunds and the state gets to keep the money.
