There used to be a cheapo beer made in Los Angeles called Brew 102. The story was that they tried 101 recipes and couldn't get it quite right - but boy, Brew 102 was just perfect. It'd give you the chits, I remember that.

I miss the bottles from some of those old beers. Most of them were available in fat one-quart recappable bottles, 12 to the case. That meant a lot less bottle-washing than with 12-ouncers when I started homebrewing - and if I open a beer I'll want at least a quart anyway.
