Re: Nephew called about going to Royals game in St Louis next week

I watched 3 or 4 innings last night and that was by far my longest stint of the year. I will admit if the Cards were better, I might look past the new wokeness of MLB. But they seem to have made a conscience effort to drive off a certain part of their fan base and I think I fall in that segment. If I learned nothing else from Covid, I learned that I can live without pro sports.

For me it is the perfect storm of a league that wants to veer to the left and become woke, a hometown team being less than competitive and a game that has devolved into something frustrating and boring to watch. When the league average is .236 and everyone knows the launch angle and exit velocity of every out they hit into, it does not make for a lot of action. When players striking out 200+ times per season is not unusual, it makes for some boring games. When players make it to the big show and have never been taught how to run bases properly, play defense properly, bunt, adjust their swings for the count and situation, etc. it makes for a very frustrating game to watch. Every game looks like a scene from the Bad New Bears.

MLB and the Cards have been a part of my life since I was a kid. And who knows, maybe it will be once again. But for now, I'm doing pretty well without them and it appears they are just fine with that...
