Re: Devil made me do this

Mel, the Devil made me take it further. At the risk of being called a racist still again by P. Diddy - your stats made me think about cause and effect. WHY do people in those cities have so much poverty, and WHY do they keep electing Democrats? I have a theory.

The Internet makes it real easy to look up the demographics of all cities, and here's what I found about the list of cities you cite:

Percentage of non-white (minority) population including "Hispanics" according to the 2010 Census

Detroit, 87.6%
Buffalo, 56.5%
Cincinnati, 51.9%
Cleveland, 66.6%
Miami, 88.1%
St. Louis, 57.8%
El Paso, 85.0%
Milwaukee, 63.0%
Philadelphia, 63.1%
Newark, 73.7%

NINE of those ten cities (except for El Paso) had majority-white populations at the close of World War II. The demographics have changed, and continue to change, enormously, with the fastest growing group by far being Hispanics.

Earlier waves of immigrants to this country (Irish, Italian, Polish, Asian, etc.) lived in big-city poverty-stricken Democrat-bossed ghettos at first and then assimilated within a couple of generations. Maybe it'll be the same with Hispanics - we'll see, and maybe as they become more prosperous they'll quit voting overwhelmingly for Dems. I'm not so optimistic about the blacks ever getting their ducks in a row.
