Re: 36" Marlin goose gun... what's it worth???

A story about one of them things.

Years ago in CA, I worked with a bunch of guys who went goose hunting every year to the Salton Sea, and they'd each bring home a goose dinner for Xmas. I never did go with them.

But one young guy in the crew listened to their hunting stories for months, and he sure wanted to go on that hunt. He had a regular 2 3/4" 12-gauge, I don't know what choke.

So he went with them, and the other guys all had 3" magnum 12-gauges, full choke. They brought a few geese home, but the new guy shot and shot and couldn't bring a one down. The geese were smart enough they were passing by over 50 yards up - straight up.

So the other guys gave him hell for a year, and before the next year's trip he mail-ordered a new shotgun. It was a 36" full-choke 10-gauge magnum.

On that trip, he killed two geese but still didn't bring any home. He had to throw them away. The guys said he shot straight up at geese that were 'way high, and that gun killed them so dead they didn't even flutter on the way down. They fell like bowling balls from that height and hit the hard desert ground.

According to accounts, his geese were just sacks filled with blood and chunks of bone - there was no way to even clean them. I know the guy called off work the day after the hunt, then cripped around for a week because of what that thing did to his shoulder, firing straight up.
