A few words about panhandlers: Here in Joplin there are some places that people sit (usually at a stoplight close to a Wal-Mart) where you will see the same sign being held by different people through the day. I swear, these POS work in shifts. Some time ago, I took on a part-time job to help work out of debt and get things paid off from a failed business. I started driving a taxi on weekends. One of the regulars I would get was a panhandler from one of the aforementioned locations. At that point, I had been working 10+ hours that day and hadn't had a day off in about 4 months. I got this guy headed to his destination and he told me that his back was kinda sore so he was done for the day. He said he had been there 6 hours and had made $260 so he didn't want to seem too greedy. |
