I'll tell you what......the early warning system we have here is top notch. They've tinkered with it over and over again through the years, and it's ALWAYS a work in progress, but they never miss a monthly test, and if you can't herar a siren where you live then all you need to do is call and someone will be on it.

That being said....I'm not trying to stand in the way of calling it a miracle....as you said, there wasn't even an injury except for very minor cuts and scrapes...no other explanation.

And.....I'm proud of the reactions I've seen on TV from the victims....it's all been clean up and move on.

D2 was up from Houston.. She tells all her southern friends that

"you might be from St Louis when the first thing you do when you hear the sirens is go out on the porch and look!"

I went to the Mother in laws yesterday in Bridgeton.. About 1/4 from her house, it took out that fancy subdivison but then turned just north enough to keep from hitting her directly.. but the House on the northside of her is condemned.. 3 threes in the house.. and the house to the south of her took a tree through one corner of the house...

The boys has to clean up a lot of branches, but nothing hit the house including a huge tree of the neighbors that leans toward her house. Somehow it got twisted and tossed back on the neighbors property...

My guess is we will see more before it is over....

We've always done that. When they say get in the basement, we go out on the deck.

That move would have likely cost you your life Friday evening, if you were in the path of that monster.

I'm working on a firehouse project in Bridgeton, at I-70 and the Rock Road. For you locals, it is where the electronic / digital billboard sits, just west of Lambert. We had just finished demo on two buildings and were supposed to get temp power to the construction trailer tomorrow. The jobsite trailer is gone, the pole that the power was to come from is snapped like a twig and that digital billboard is laying on it's side, next to the interstate.

I had to go over that way, over the weekend. Hard to imagine the force of winds that can uproot 40-50'+ trees and snap utility poles like twigs.

The new Berkley station? I just hope that new truck they just purchased with all that new equipment didn't get in the way of anything!!

I grew up in that part of the county....it is and always has been a trough for tornados. I lived there in 1967 when the last big one came through and it absolutely leveled the 300 acre subdivison behind our house....and stayed on the ground for 35 miles, in an almost identical path of this one. There have been countless smaller tornados and funnels spawned in the St. Charles and Chesterfield bottoms that have taken almost eerily the identical path of this F4 tornado.....you have obviously never lived near there, GoGop....because when those suckers start rolling East across the Missouri you don't go out on your deck....unless you're a fool.

I would go with "miracle". We went over first thing into Ferguson with our chainsaw to help Sat morning. Total devistation. I wanted Lil'C to see when the sirens go off, that there is a reason and I think it sunk in. It also felt good to help. Another miracle I was running the chainsaw a couple of more guys with saws joined in and anywhere from 10 - 15 of the locals was behind actually helping.

No, Pattonville. I wasn't aware Berkley had any money for anything new... Then again they have 2 patrol cars generating a chit-ton of revenue on I-70, near the airport every day. Hopefully this storm destroyed those cars... Lousy bastages are ruthless and it has nothing to do with "public safety." (No, they haven't got me ... yet)

Good work Charlie!!

You are correct. I grew up in St. George, Reavis Barracks @ 55, so I was in a whole different area.

That scene at the airport....in the tin box known as concourse C.....was a miracle all by itself. How big would a piece of debris have to be to kill you at 50 mph? They clocked the f4 at 200 mph.

The further you go south the less you have basements. The fact that this hit in a rural area where I am assuming almost every house has a basement had to be a factor. If this area was a trailer park or a bunch of houses on slabs the outcome would have been so miraculous. Early warning is only good if you have a place to go.

I flew out of Lambert yesterday seated on the starboard side..........a path of distuction, like a giant weedeater!

Don't know much about miracles, one of my many failings I guess. The local tv's are all patting themselves on the back about the early warning, and rightly so. But you gotta remember, it was Friday night and all the miscreats were down at the lake partying, well out of harms way!

From the videos, it doesn't look like the warning system was workin at the airport. One of them gro's in the video said " I knew, I knew it wa a tornado man, I knew it".

He should have said sumtin earlier...

I would say zero deaths and zero serious injuries is pretty good evidence that the warning system worked pretty good...

I think this film depicts things a little better...and no argument on early warning but the folks at the airport were caught way off guard...

The only reason the folks inside that concourse were caught off guard is because the airport dropped the ball in warning the people inside the terminal. Every air traffic controller knew what was coming....so did the desk person in the airport PD. It'a all about communication, always is and always will be. I bet they have a procedure in place now for getting the information to the people in the buildings.

That was a screw up on the part of the Airport....you have to call it like it is. They are damn lucky nobody got hurt. Call it a miracle if you wish.....whatever.

The early warning system in the bi-state area is one of the best in the country.....there is NO disputing that. And once you heard the sirens, all you had to do was tune in your TV to a local network....they called it as it happened and were right on the money. It's a great system....I don't care who takes the credit...the truth is it's as good as the sum of it's parts, both public and private.
