I dunno what it is, but since I stopped and took pics of a 24' seaark for Dab's want ad, all I have really thought about is getting a seaark. That thing was just sweet.

So a couple questions:

What brands would you consider equal to or better than a seaark? (I have some ideas from research, just curious). I have been looking at things like capacity and the # of people they are rated for, and a same size tracker doesn't compare....

The wife is cool with a new big boat that we may have to pay to store somewhere, but her only requirement is we have to be able to ski behind it, would you still consider a 2072 seaark (with the 15degree front??)??? And if it was a 2072 or 24', what size engine would you need to hang off the back? (never water skied before).

Why do I want such a big boat? I want to be able to take 8 people (my kids and another family) and go crappie fishing on MTL or elsewhere if I want. I will keep my 15' jon for the smaller stuff.

Other questions to follow....

Get off your god damned wallet and buy one. Get the 24 and put a 150 yammy on it. Sell the bronco to fund it.

huck -

I like the big boat - I had a 2070 Triton before and went back to that - both times with a 115....first time two stroker and this time a four stroker.

Here is the thing for me - I think there are a few good boats on the market. You get a thicker shell with a Sea Ark than you do a Triton... .133 vs. .100 if my mind serves me correctly.

That can be nice I guess - but also makes the boat heavier. I haven't ran into anything yet that poked a hole in my .100....and if I do - I wonder if it wouldn't also poke one in the .133??????

Availability is what I bought based upon - I was at the dealership all of an hour and then went and fed the fish at the damn for an hour and went and picked my boat up with a trolling motor and depth finder installed - I couldn't find a Sea Ark with that turnaround......price was also a factor. I got another good deal on the Triton as it was a holdover boat.

One thing I like about the Triton over the SeaArk is the riveted floor. I have been in a few SeaArks and they all seem to rattle with the screwed floor. Just an observation.

I would not overlook Bob's Marine in Illinois being you are on that side of the State - google it. They had some really good deals that were worth the money a few months ago. They have a variety of brands.

Is there any other brand worth looking at????????

Check out the capacity rating and compare - you'll end up in the SeaArk!

A comparison of 20' Jons by manufacturer....

Tracker 9 persons 1890 lbs total capacity

Alumacraft 8 persons 2100 lbs total capacity

Fischer 9 persons 1890 lbs total capacity

G3 8 persons 2000 lbs total capacity

Triton 6 persons 1500 lbs total capacity

SeaArk 11 persons 2300 lbs total capacity

Need any other reasons in addition to the fact that it's .125 aluminum compared to .100 on all the other brands.

Sure does suck to have such a heavy boat and be able to carry all that additional weight as well - you may need to invest in bigger motor!

Better take a look at this rig before you set your mind on a SeaArk. These guys just retooled their manufacturing facility and are building a helluva hull. The sport boat has a performance hull with reverse chines and longitudinal bracing, both features that you won't find on a SeaArk. The sales rep told me they will be marketed at a lower price point than SeaArk. Excel has been around for a while, but their facility got smashed by a tornado in 2008 and they rebuilt their building as well as redesigned their hulls. The Viper Hull is a totally new design. I'm waiting for Putnam boats in Columbia to get their first order.

http://www.excelboats.net/Sport%20Boat%20Series.html

I ain't hating on SeaArk, almost pulled the trigger on one in July. But, they aint' the only show in town now. PolarKraft has also redesigned their hulls and they're pretty damn comparable to SeaArk, also about 2k less on the 2072 hull.

I haven't seen the new Excel yet with my own eyes, but looking at the specs on the performance hull, I'll go with that over the seaark. The problem I have with SeaArk is their markup, which they have been able to get away with because of their good reputation coupled with folks financing their boat at 10 and 12 years. Hopefully with a little competition they'll adjust their prices.

Or, if you really want to go balls out, start watching craigslist for commercial plate boats in New Orleans where the fisherman run the motors in the ground then buy whole new rigs instead of just repowering. You can pick up a used 3/16ths 20' hull for a couple grand.

I've heard good things about the excel too, but they are only rated for 5 people, so it doesn't really meet my goal from that regard, right or wrong on my part.

anyone know how many Bob's Marine there are in IL?

Thanks all! --Jim

Wheel boat. I'd like to see someone try a tiller on a 115HP

There are commercial fisherman on the miss. that run 150 and maybe bigger, tiller. They need to turn sharp and cut the motor hard when pulling nets. Some are running homemade boats that make the seaark look like its made of rice paper.

Commercial fisherman can do that. Guess they have to. I prefer to do it the easy way.

Any of you guys with the big jon boats who want to tow skiers, I sold my 20' Ultra Jon and now I have a tripod type ski tow bar that can be taken in and out of the boat that I would let go cheap. $25

It mounts on the back deck and puts the rope up higher over the motor. I always hated the tow strap that hooks to the hull on either side of the motor and this works great. The guy that bought my boat didn't want it.

Paid around $100 for it.

Just PM me if your interested.
