Adding a runner to a foamer
      #158648 - 08/11/08 08:45 AM

So last year I posted on this here forum about a foamer I was building. I carved, glassed and painted and it looked like a champ. I put it in the water and went to oar it using kayak paddles, and I was fighting the damn thing wanting to go extreme left and right whenever I paddled.

I read where someone on here put vinyl brick molding on the bottom of their boat with some modifications. I bought 2 8' pieces and will just resin them down on bottom (on top of the glass), however I wasn't sure if I should trim down the molding, should I lay it wide (cut flat) or narrow?

here's a picture of the molding's side angle

Man I wouldn't bother with that stuff. Just cut ya some runners out of wood and glass them over. Cut em out of some 1X4 pine and make em about 1" or so high and round over the edges. That brick mould is too big and blocky and will cause excessive drag, plus you will get better tracking with thinner runners. The other thing is resin ain't gonna stick to vinyl very well and certainly not well enough to just glue it in place with no cloth covering.

Thanks,

I'll go get some 1x1 pine.

Anybody need 2 8' vinyl brick moulding pieces?
