I guess goat hunters are staying in camp

Can't say I would want to be in a tree stand today with 20-25 steady and 50 gazillion mph wind gust

Return on investment for this dump????

I went to a deer camp this morn to check the past two day kills. Normally 3 or more are hanging. One person had seen a deer.
But on a positive note...I offered to trade 2 mallards for a back strap.

Ummm...Didn't the hard core deer hunters on here move to their own forum a few years back ??? Maybe why no posts now. Just sayin...

Saw 4 scrub bucks and a doe this morning. Only one would have been legal. Never even picked up the gun. At home now watching football and watching the wind blow and a full moon come up. Got Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun and Mon to fill a tag. That is all.

I'll venture a guess as to why nobody's talking. Maybe I just need a whole new set of friends and acquaintances - but since Conservation did away with deer check stations and went to the electronic thing, I don't know anybody who still checks in their deer. Well, I don't know anybody who has to hunt on public property or who takes their meat to a processing plant, either. In regards to the MDC deer check and count though, all I hear guys say is "Well, if they don't care anymore, then I sure don't care."

I don't think Conservation has any idea how many deer are being harvested - and since there are obviously plenty of deer, I don't think they much care. That's not to say they wouldn't still write you a ticket if they can.

Not saying people are poaching, exactly. I think they've got tags and they're generally shooting around the number of deer they're entitled to - BUT farm-tag deer might get shot somewhere else or at some other time, they're not getting tagged anyway. With all those various seasons anymore, November rifle season doesn't mean much like it used to.

We've got some property out in the country, and if you go there "opening morning" you'll hardly hear a shot fired in all the miles around. Go there during "archery season" and it sounds like there's a war going on. I think the neighbors all get their freezers full before November, and so do all their friends and relatives. Just sayin'.

Ozark, there may be something to what you say... now the wind plays hell with identifying where shots come from but I would say a normal opener , you can count 75 plus shots by mid mornin for the opener... we had 9 hunters and a couple didnt claim to hear double digits.

We also had the long slow fly over and know one guy who was pulled over and checked and another where they came and asked to check the barn...

All were legal and we think it waa a pizzy neighbor called in the barn just to be a nuisance...

Also didnt see as many "tourists " driving the roads...

Yeah, well, you won't see any reports from me. As an obedient citizen of our politically-correct and snoopy nanny state, I don't even hunt or fish anymore. Not since I lost all my guns, ammo, lead sinkers and jig heads, unhealthy fried food, cigars, and big gulp sodas in that dreadful boating accident.

Mostly I just sit at home raising housecats and watching PBS, and sometimes I get on YouTube and sing "It's a Small World After All" along with those cute multicultural Disneyland puppets.

I'm looking up recipes today about how to brine venison backstraps before freezing, as a purely hypothetical, theoretical, intellectual exercise, of course.
